The ultimate compost toilet

Designed for comfort, built for the planet

CompostEra toilets use long-term composting to prevent pollution, lower costs and reduce maintenance. Our toilets are also waterless, odour-free, pleasant to use – and, importantly, require no handling of toilet waste.

We offer toilet systems that can be installed in existing buildings and have developed a new type of composting toilet cabin that can be a great off-grid summer toilet solution.

CompostEra toilets can be found all around the world – from Sweden and Iceland to Portugal and Haiti.

Introducing CompostEra toilets

Our long-term composting toilets offer pollution-free, odourless and waterless toilet solutions that transform human waste into a nutrient-rich compost liquid with minimal maintenance and cost. Designed for both year-round use and seasonal homes, our systems meet the highest environmental requirements and are suitable for environmentally sensitive areas.

CompostEra is nice to use too with no unpleasant sights or smells. And unlike other composting toilets, the CompostEra system requires no handling of faeces or urine and no regular emptying. Instead, the toilet waste and potentially harmful pathogens are safely left to decompose in the compost tank and a lot of the liquid evaporates.

CompostEra toilets are not only more sustainable than incineration, freeze toilets and other alternatives – they are less work and will save you money in the long term as well.

Who are CompostEra toilets for?

CompostEra toilets are a perfect solution for people seeking a highly sustainable, low-maintenance and cost-effective toilet that does not compromise on comfort. They can be installed in year-round or seasonal properties, such as summer houses, that have space under the bathroom, or why not check out our off grid toilet cabin?

Six benefits of CompostEra Toilets

#1 Pleasant to use
Thanks to its built-in fan and concealed waste design, CompostEra toilets are odour-free and visually clean.
#2 Cost effective
A CompostEra toilet system is much cheaper to install than a conventional sewage system. Additionally, a property with a CompostEra toilet will only require a greywater purification system, which is less expensive than a wastewater system for both black (toilet) and greywater combined.
#3 Low maintenance
A CompostEra toilet is easy to maintain and requires minimal intervention – with no unpleasant handling of solid waste or urine. The composting tank only needs to be emptied every 10-15 years by a vacuum truck – depending on use. The system also uses no heating elements that can burn out, no pipes that can leak, clog, freeze, or other essential parts that can fail mechanically.
#4 Waterless
The CompostEra toilet uses no water for flushing. As around 30% of the water used by a household is flushed down the toilet, CompostEra can help homes significantly reduce their water use.
#5 No pollution
As CompostEra toilet uses a closed system, no effluent is released into the environment.
#6 Creates plant fertiliser from toilet waste
The CompostEra system converts toilet waste into a nutrient-rich plant fertiliser that can be used on trees, bushes and lawns. By transforming the problem of human waste into a valuable resource, a CompostEra system can be a central element in a sustainable garden. The compost liquid smells of sweet compost and contains no or very low quantities of bacteria such as Escherichia coli (E.coli) and Intestinal Enterococci (IE). As it is high in nitrogen and micronutrients, the liquid is a perfect organic fertiliser.
